excellent.
welcome to the website. i made it myself.
it even has a guestbook (which you can sign if you want).
now, you may have some questions. for example:
what's this about storytelling?
who is lauren?
i'm lauren ('i' as in me, the person who's writing these words). i'm a writer and storyteller from waterford, ireland, but i'm currently based in england. here's a picture of my face, in case you don't know what i look like.
what does lauren write?
i primarily write novels. i finished my first (as yet unpublished) novel in 2021/2022, and my current novel-in-progress was longlisted for the 2024 discoveries prize, which is extremely cool. i've also been known to write short stories, and most recently my story myself and i alone was published in sans. press's stranger anthology. my genre is a bit nebulous, but i generally write contemporary stories inspired by irish folk- and fairy-tales - the best term for it is probably weird fiction.
in a past life i was co-founder of malefaction, a crime/genre blend literary magazine that was active between 2019 and 2020. i'm still very much interested in indie publishing, and there are a few other projects in the works (most mysterious, i know).
what's this about storytelling?
i do traditional oral storytelling! i've trained in (mainly) scotland and (also in) england. there's not much happening on that front at the minute, but watch this space.
what else is lauren doing?
at the minute i'm:
reading: the regeneration trilogy by pat barker
knitting: wild angelica socks by running yarn
listening to: metamorphosis complete by infinity song
how do i get in touch with lauren?
if you just want to say hi, there's always the aforementioned guestbook.you can also find me on instagram, where you can also keep up to date with my knitting projects if you're into that kind of thing. that's about it for the time being.
why does this website look like that?
because i made it, and i don't know how to code. i've already forgotten how i did that thing with the duck on the landing page. if you're wondering why it's all in lower case - that's just a stylistic choice, brother.
